He is known for the pop hits "Patola", "Suit", "High Rated Gabru" and "Lahore", for Bollywood film songs, and for his 2019 song "Slowly Slowly" with the American rapper Pitbull. His later work includes the Punjabi film Shahkot (2024) and the 2025 album Without Prejudice. ## Early life Wikipedia says Randhawa was born in Noorpur, Dera Baba Nanak tehsil, Gurdaspur district. Outlook India also calls Noorpur a small village in Gurdaspur district. Speaking to The Hindu in 2018, he said he hails from Gurdaspur, about 5 km from Pakistan, and that the satellite at home picked up a few Pakistani channels along with DD National. He called himself a self-taught singer and composer with no formal training. He began with small shows in Gurdaspur and then performed at small parties and functions in Delhi. Rolling Stone India reports that he completed an MBA at the Indian Institute of Planning and Management in Delhi while trying to find a break. ## Career His first recorded appearance came in 2012 on "Same Girl", an R&B track by the British singer Arjun, who put him in the video. In 2013 he released the single "Chhad Gayi" on Speed Records, which Wikipedia says his elder brother Ramneek helped pay for, and his debut album Page One followed that year. Wikipedia says none of these early releases became very popular. The rapper Bohemia introduced him to T-Series, and Rolling Stone India says he signed with the label in 2015\. Their song "Patola" lifted him into Punjabi pop's front rank. It was Bohemia who shortened his name to "Guru" on stage, a name that stuck. In 2016 he released "Yaar Mod Do" with Millind Gaba, "Tu Meri Rani" with Haji Springer, "Suit" with Arjun and "Fashion" with Rajat Nagpal. His Bollywood break came in 2017\. "Suit" was reworked as "Suit Suit" for Hindi Medium, and "Tu Meri Rani" became "Ban Ja Rani" in Tumhari Sulu. Wikipedia adds that he also sang at the 2017 Indian Premier League opening ceremony. Wikipedia reports that "High Rated Gabru" and "Lahore" have each passed one billion views on T-Series' YouTube channel. In 2018 "Lahore" won Track of the Year at the Brit Asia TV Music Awards, where he also won Best Male Act. ## International work "Slowly Slowly" (April 2019), with Pitbull, was his first international collaboration. Wikipedia says its video drew 38 million views in 24 hours. He also appears in Pitbull's "Mueve La Cintura" and released "Surma Surma" with the British singer Jay Sean in 2020\. In 2021 Rolling Stone India described "Nain Bengali" as the first song from India to cross 70 million views in 24 hours. In 2022 he released "Designer" with Yo Yo Honey Singh. ## Recent albums and touring His album sequence continued with Man of the Moon (2022) and G Thing (2023), both on T-Series, according to his discography on Wikipedia. The song "Moon Rise", from Man of the Moon, was released as a single with Shehnaaz Gill in 2023\. In March 2025, Bollywood Hungama reported that Warner Music India had signed him in a major deal, with new management led by Gurjot Singh of BeingU Studios, and announced Without Prejudice, his first studio album since 2023\. The announcement listed nine tracks, including "Qatal", "Sirra", "Surrey Connection" and "Gallan Battan", blending Afropop and Indian pop, with collaborations with Zehr Vibe, NSeeB, Bob.B Randhawa, Kiran Bajwa and Prem Lata. The first single, "Gallan Battan", was set for release with its video on 28 March 2025\. The same report put him at over eight million monthly listeners on Spotify and more than 14 billion streams across platforms. Live work grew with the album work. His Moon Rise tour, described by Bollywood Hungama as his biggest India tour to that point, covered 10 cities over three months in late 2024, opening in Indore on 19 October and closing in Dehradun on 21 December. The route included Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Pune, and took him to Patna, Nashik and Dehradun for the first time. He made his acting debut as Heer in the Hindi romantic comedy Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay, released on 16 February 2024 with Saiee Manjrekar, Anupam Kher and Ila Arun, according to Cinema Express and Wikipedia. Later in 2024 he made his Punjabi film debut in Shahkot, released on 4 October 2024\. Directed by Rajiv Dhingra and produced by Anirudh Mohta, the film casts him as Iqbal Singh opposite Isha Talwar, with Raj Babbar and Gurshabad Singh, and follows Iqbal's story through themes of love, family and the struggles faced by young people today, according to the film's Wikipedia entry. The New Indian Express review quoted there called it an assured Punjabi movie debut. ## Honours Rolling Stone India reports that he received the Dada Saheb Phalke Award in the Most Trending Singer category in 2019, and that he also won Best Male Debut at the PTC Music Awards.
