Born Gurinder Kaur Kainth, she trained in music to master's level, taught music in a Rajpura school, and then, from her 2006 duet Jaan Ton Piyari onward, recorded at a pace no other Punjabi woman singer has matched, building a catalogue honoured for 4,500 songs and 850 music videos. ## Early life and training in Rajpura Gurinder Kaur Kainth was born on 4 December 1980 in Rajpura, Punjab, to Inderpal Kainth and Saroj Devi. Music was her subject from the start. She took a B.A. in vocal and instrumental skills from Punjabi University, then an M.A. in music from PGGCG Chandigarh, followed by a B.Ed. in music. Before she was a recording artist she was a music teacher at Patel Public School in Rajpura, and Pooja, the name she performs under, was her childhood nickname. That training matters to her story. She arrived in the Punjabi music industry not as an untrained discovery but as a qualified teacher of the subject, in a field where women singers were then given few solo opportunities. The duet format, in which a woman's voice answered a man's, became the door she walked through, and she then widened it for everyone who followed. ## How did Miss Pooja become the Duet Queen?
