Bhangwan (159) is a village in Amritsar I tehsil of Amritsar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Jandiala, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jandiala Guru community development block and is served by the Bhangwan gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037530, and it covers 489 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 2,344 people in Bhangwan (159): 1,239 men and 1,105 women, living in 390 households, an average of about 6.0 people per household. Spread over its 489 hectares, the population density works out to about 479 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 892 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 257, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 932 people, about 40 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 75.04 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 79.82 per cent and women at 69.76 per cent. The census recorded 816 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. Of the 757 main workers, the largest group, 336, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 300 cultivators on their own land and 117 other workers in trade, transport and services.
