Kotla Dal Singh is a village of Amritsar II tehsil in Amritsar district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Amritsar, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Verka community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037629, and it covers 247 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 236 people in Kotla Dal Singh: 129 men and 107 women, living in 43 households, an average of about 5.5 people per household. Spread over its 247 hectares, the population density works out to about 96 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 829 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 26, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 140 people, about 59 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 60.48 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 64.29 per cent and women at 56.12 per cent. The census recorded 72 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 72 main workers, the largest group, 71, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 1 other workers in trade, transport and services. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Kotla Dal Singh's land. Irrigation came mainly from canals (62 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (73 hectares). About 112 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
