Chak Chhanga Rai is a village in Jalalabad tehsil of Fazilka district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Guru Har Sahai, about 14 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Guru Har Sahai community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034803, and it covers 409 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 2,506 people in Chak Chhanga Rai: 1,321 men and 1,185 women, living in 448 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 409 hectares, the population density works out to about 613 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 897 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 350, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 2,493 people, about 99 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 57.51 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 70.43 per cent and women at 43.21 per cent. The census recorded 1,018 workers, about 41 per cent of the village. Of the 550 main workers, the largest group, 278, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 153 agricultural labourers and 119 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 468 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Chak Chhanga Rai's land. Of the village's 409 hectares, 371 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (318 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (53 hectares). About 38 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 6 hours a day.
