Madhepur is a village in Dinanagar tehsil of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Gurdaspur, about 14 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dorangala community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027924, and it covers 82 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 624 people in Madhepur: 320 men and 304 women, living in 109 households, an average of about 5.7 people per household. Spread over its 82 hectares, the population density works out to about 761 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 950 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 71, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 266 people, about 43 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.84 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 82.87 per cent and women at 74.53 per cent. The census recorded 172 workers, about 28 per cent of the village. Of the 168 main workers, the largest group, 119, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 49 cultivators on their own land.
