Mallian(Faqiran) is a village of Gurdaspur tehsil in Gurdaspur district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dhariwal, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dhariwal community development block and is served by the Mallian \[Faqiran \] gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028316, and it covers 219 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 762 people in Mallian(Faqiran): 401 men and 361 women, living in 124 households, an average of about 6.1 people per household. Spread over its 219 hectares, the population density works out to about 348 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 900 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 79, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 46 people, about 6 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 71.45 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 74.93 per cent and women at 67.5 per cent. The census recorded 578 workers, about 76 per cent of the village. Of the 180 main workers, the largest group, 123, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 30 agricultural labourers and 20 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 398 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Mallian(Faqiran)'s land.
