Manjian Wali is a village of Fatehgarh Churian tehsil in Gurdaspur district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Fatehgarh Churian, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Fatehgarh Churian community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028828, and it covers 302 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,439 people in Manjian Wali: 732 men and 707 women, living in 239 households, an average of about 6.0 people per household. Spread over its 302 hectares, the population density works out to about 476 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 966 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 170, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 334 people, about 23 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 81.17 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 83.49 per cent and women at 78.74 per cent. The census recorded 442 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 421 main workers, the largest group, 231, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 186 other workers in trade, transport and services and 3 agricultural labourers. A further 21 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Manjian Wali's land. Of the village's 302 hectares, 276 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 226 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (142 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (29 hectares). About 26 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
