Nangal Buttar is a village in Batala tehsil of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Qadian, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Qadian community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028689, and it covers 202 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,047 people in Nangal Buttar: 540 men and 507 women, living in 221 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 202 hectares, the population density works out to about 518 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 939 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 88, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 478 people, about 46 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 71.32 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 77.21 per cent and women at 65.25 per cent. The census recorded 279 workers, about 27 per cent of the village. Of the 269 main workers, the largest group, 114, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 114 agricultural labourers and 38 other workers in trade, transport and services.
