Chhaurian is a village in Dasua tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Dasua, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dasua community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030972, and it covers 82 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 284 people in Chhaurian: 147 men and 137 women, living in 64 households, an average of about 4.4 people per household. Spread over its 82 hectares, the population density works out to about 346 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 932 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 35, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 268 people, about 94 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 83.53 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 89.68 per cent and women at 77.24 per cent. The census recorded 81 workers, about 29 per cent of the village. Of the 81 main workers, the largest group, 78, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 2 cultivators on their own land and 1 agricultural labourers. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Chhaurian's land. Of the village's 82 hectares, 70 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 54 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (54 hectares). About 12 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day.
