Chikarial is a village in Mukerian tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Mukerian, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hazipur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031269, and it covers 42 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 209 people in Chikarial: 109 men and 100 women, living in 48 households, an average of about 4.4 people per household. Spread over its 42 hectares, the population density works out to about 498 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 917 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 25, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 0 people, about 0 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 89.13 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 94.68 per cent and women at 83.33 per cent. The census recorded 58 workers, about 28 per cent of the village. Of the 51 main workers, the largest group, 37, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 10 cultivators on their own land and 4 agricultural labourers.
