Dhande Katwal is a village of Mukerian tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Mukerian, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hazipur community development block and is served by the Dhande--Katwal gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031260, and it covers 213 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,197 people in Dhande Katwal: 618 men and 579 women, living in 234 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 213 hectares, the population density works out to about 562 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 937 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 139, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 99 people, about 8 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 88.66 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 93.93 per cent and women at 83.07 per cent. The census recorded 205 workers, about 17 per cent of the village. Of the 191 main workers, the largest group, 114, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 56 other workers in trade, transport and services and 12 agricultural labourers. A further 14 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Dhande Katwal's land.
