Khun Khun Kalan is a village of Dasua tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Urmar Tanda, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Tanda community development block and is served by the Khun--Khun--Kalan gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030840, and it covers 256 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 2,076 people in Khun Khun Kalan: 1,065 men and 1,011 women, living in 455 households, an average of about 4.6 people per household. Spread over its 256 hectares, the population density works out to about 811 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 949 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 174, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 841 people, about 41 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 88.33 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 91.89 per cent and women at 84.68 per cent. The census recorded 598 workers, about 29 per cent of the village. Of the 413 main workers, the largest group, 242, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 101 cultivators on their own land and 60 agricultural labourers. A further 185 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Khun Khun Kalan's land. Of the village's 256 hectares, 215 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (215 hectares). About 41 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 16 hours a day.
