Morian is a village of Dasua tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dasua, about 11 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dasua community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030984, and it covers 133 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 477 people in Morian: 230 men and 247 women, living in 98 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 133 hectares, the population density works out to about 359 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1074 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 52, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 257 people, about 54 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 81.88 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.71 per cent and women at 78.38 per cent. The census recorded 132 workers, about 28 per cent of the village. Of the 110 main workers, the largest group, 75, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 32 cultivators on their own land and 2 household industry workers. A further 22 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Morian's land. Of the village's 133 hectares, 91 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 29 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (29 hectares). About 42 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day.
