Ramu Thiara is a village of Hoshiarpur tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hoshiarpur-II community development block and is served by the Ramu--Thiara gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031740, and it covers 112 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 171 people in Ramu Thiara: 93 men and 78 women, living in 46 households, an average of about 3.7 people per household. Spread over its 112 hectares, the population density works out to about 153 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 839 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 24, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 37 people, about 22 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 80.27 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.08 per cent and women at 73.53 per cent. The census recorded 126 workers, about 74 per cent of the village. Of the 78 main workers, the largest group, 44, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 24 other workers in trade, transport and services and 8 agricultural labourers.
