Akalpur (Phillaur) is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Phillaur, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Phillaur community development block and is served by the Akalpur gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030106, and it covers 273 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,997 people in Akalpur (Phillaur): 1,033 men and 964 women, living in 407 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 273 hectares, the population density works out to about 732 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 933 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 197, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 822 people, about 41 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 79.67 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.2 per cent and women at 74.89 per cent. The census recorded 638 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Of the 574 main workers, the largest group, 299, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 168 cultivators on their own land and 70 agricultural labourers.
