Aliwal is a village of Shahkot tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Lohian Khass, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Lohian Khas community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029790, and it covers 126 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 359 people in Aliwal: 193 men and 166 women, living in 64 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 126 hectares, the population density works out to about 285 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 860 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 54, about 15 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 249 people, about 69 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 66.89 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 77.11 per cent and women at 54.68 per cent. The census recorded 116 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Of the 116 main workers, the largest group, 53, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 35 other workers in trade, transport and services and 28 cultivators on their own land. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Aliwal's land.
