Bhaini is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Phillaur, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nurmahal community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030038, and it covers 167 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 782 people in Bhaini: 417 men and 365 women, living in 166 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 167 hectares, the population density works out to about 468 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 875 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 79, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 509 people, about 65 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 83.64 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 88.74 per cent and women at 77.88 per cent. The census recorded 231 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. Of the 207 main workers, the largest group, 186, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 20 cultivators on their own land and 1 household industry workers. A further 24 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Bhaini's land.
