Chachowal is a village of Shahkot tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Lohian Khass, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Lohian Khas community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029794, and it covers 86 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 187 people in Chachowal: 95 men and 92 women, living in 37 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 86 hectares, the population density works out to about 217 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 968 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 29, about 16 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 111 people, about 59 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 61.39 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 66.67 per cent and women at 56.25 per cent. The census recorded 59 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Of the 55 main workers, the largest group, 31, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 16 other workers in trade, transport and services and 8 cultivators on their own land.
