Garha is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Phillaur, about 2 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Phillaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030110, and it covers 106 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 2,869 people in Garha: 1,565 men and 1,304 women, living in 602 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 106 hectares, the population density works out to about 2,707 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 833 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 293, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,969 people, about 69 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 76.94 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 81.82 per cent and women at 71.1 per cent. The census recorded 964 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 857 main workers, the largest group, 762, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 41 cultivators on their own land and 31 household industry workers.
