Gill (Jalandhar II) is a village of Jalandhar West tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Jalandhar, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jalandhar (West) community development block and is served by the Gill gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030434, and it covers 328 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,308 people in Gill (Jalandhar II): 670 men and 638 women, living in 268 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 328 hectares, the population density works out to about 399 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 952 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 133, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 565 people, about 43 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 79.4 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.94 per cent and women at 73.8 per cent. The census recorded 443 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 410 main workers, the largest group, 144, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 134 other workers in trade, transport and services and 128 cultivators on their own land.
