Gill (Nakodar) is a village of Nakodar tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Nakodar, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nakodar community development block and is served by the Gill gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029893, and it covers 355 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,411 people in Gill (Nakodar): 719 men and 692 women, living in 282 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 355 hectares, the population density works out to about 397 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 962 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 145, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 482 people, about 34 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 65.64 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 69.41 per cent and women at 61.74 per cent. The census recorded 448 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Of the 442 main workers, the largest group, 209, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 139 cultivators on their own land and 94 other workers in trade, transport and services.
