Gona Chak is a village of Jalandhar West tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Jalandhar, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jalandhar (West) community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030436, and it covers 96 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 261 people in Gona Chak: 125 men and 136 women, living in 56 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 96 hectares, the population density works out to about 272 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1088 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 15, about 6 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 5 people, about 2 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 75.2 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 79.13 per cent and women at 71.76 per cent. The census recorded 153 workers, about 59 per cent of the village. Of the 84 main workers, the largest group, 65, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 10 other workers in trade, transport and services and 5 agricultural labourers.
