Hazipur is a village of Shahkot tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Shahkot, about 1 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Shahkot community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029808, and it covers 49 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 498 people in Hazipur: 255 men and 243 women, living in 101 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 49 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,009 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 953 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 50, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 398 people, about 80 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 68.53 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 72.57 per cent and women at 64.41 per cent. The census recorded 228 workers, about 46 per cent of the village. Of the 191 main workers, the largest group, 157, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 17 cultivators on their own land and 12 agricultural labourers. A further 37 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Hazipur's land.
