Jamsher is a village of Shahkot tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Lohian Khass, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Lohian Khas community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029765, and it covers 159 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 512 people in Jamsher: 273 men and 239 women, living in 94 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 159 hectares, the population density works out to about 321 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 875 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 73, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 461 people, about 90 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 58.54 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 58.7 per cent and women at 58.37 per cent. The census recorded 177 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. Of the 109 main workers, the largest group, 70, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 33 other workers in trade, transport and services and 6 cultivators on their own land.
