Kakar Kalan (76) is a village of Shahkot tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Shahkot, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Shahkot community development block and is served by the Kakar Kalan gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029825, and it covers 256 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,456 people in Kakar Kalan (76): 784 men and 672 women, living in 304 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 256 hectares, the population density works out to about 569 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 857 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 170, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,204 people, about 83 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 63.3 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 66.81 per cent and women at 59.23 per cent. The census recorded 492 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 446 main workers, the largest group, 300, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 113 agricultural labourers and 32 cultivators on their own land.
