Kangniwal (Jalandhar I) is a village of Jalandhar East tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Jalandhar, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jalandhar (East) community development block and is served by the Kangniwal gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030338, and it covers 253 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 2,036 people in Kangniwal (Jalandhar I): 1,036 men and 1,000 women, living in 436 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 253 hectares, the population density works out to about 805 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 965 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 163, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,132 people, about 56 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 86.39 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 92.24 per cent and women at 80.33 per cent. The census recorded 639 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 571 main workers, the largest group, 349, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 169 cultivators on their own land and 33 agricultural labourers.
