Kara Ramsingh is a village of Shahkot tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Lohian Khass, about 2 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Lohian Khas community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029770, and it covers 142 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 619 people in Kara Ramsingh: 301 men and 318 women, living in 127 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 142 hectares, the population density works out to about 435 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1056 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 81, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 198 people, about 32 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 81.41 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 89.69 per cent and women at 73.55 per cent. The census recorded 189 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 177 main workers, the largest group, 114, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 61 cultivators on their own land and 2 agricultural labourers.
