Katana is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Goraya, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Phillaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030167, and it covers 123 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 817 people in Katana: 411 men and 406 women, living in 181 households, an average of about 4.5 people per household. Spread over its 123 hectares, the population density works out to about 664 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 988 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 84, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 277 people, about 34 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 85.81 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 90.08 per cent and women at 81.62 per cent. The census recorded 333 workers, about 41 per cent of the village. Of the 321 main workers, the largest group, 251, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 68 cultivators on their own land and 2 household industry workers.
