Mehsampur (Phillaur) is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Goraya, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Rurka Kalan community development block and is served by the Mehsampur gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030155, and it covers 559 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,634 people in Mehsampur (Phillaur): 810 men and 824 women, living in 351 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 559 hectares, the population density works out to about 292 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1017 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 178, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 830 people, about 51 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 77.13 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 79.81 per cent and women at 74.53 per cent. The census recorded 469 workers, about 29 per cent of the village. Of the 406 main workers, the largest group, 302, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 70 cultivators on their own land and 27 agricultural labourers.
