Nurewal is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Phillaur, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Phillaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030136, and it covers 106 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 215 people in Nurewal: 110 men and 105 women, living in 38 households, an average of about 5.7 people per household. Spread over its 106 hectares, the population density works out to about 203 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 955 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 26, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 96 people, about 45 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 77.78 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 81.25 per cent and women at 74.19 per cent. The census recorded 72 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 69 main workers, the largest group, 29, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 21 cultivators on their own land and 18 agricultural labourers.
