Raipur Araian (Phillaur) is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Phillaur, about 11 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Phillaur community development block and is served by the Raipur Araian gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030124, and it covers 519 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,506 people in Raipur Araian (Phillaur): 753 men and 753 women, living in 303 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 519 hectares, the population density works out to about 290 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1000 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 151, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,055 people, about 70 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 70.04 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 75.48 per cent and women at 64.6 per cent. The census recorded 462 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 451 main workers, the largest group, 313, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 86 cultivators on their own land and 46 agricultural labourers. A further 11 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Raipur Araian (Phillaur)'s land.
