Satowali is a village of Jalandhar West tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Bhogpur, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bhogpur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030505, and it covers 191 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 802 people in Satowali: 422 men and 380 women, living in 156 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 191 hectares, the population density works out to about 420 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 900 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 66, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 554 people, about 69 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 84.78 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 92.01 per cent and women at 76.72 per cent. The census recorded 289 workers, about 36 per cent of the village. Of the 276 main workers, the largest group, 194, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 73 cultivators on their own land and 9 agricultural labourers. A further 13 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Satowali's land.
