Sohal Khalsa is a village of Shahkot tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Lohian Khass, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Lohian Khas community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029852, and it covers 133 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 568 people in Sohal Khalsa: 289 men and 279 women, living in 116 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 133 hectares, the population density works out to about 427 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 965 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 69, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 237 people, about 42 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 76.55 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 79.46 per cent and women at 73.44 per cent. The census recorded 169 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. Of the 165 main workers, the largest group, 79, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 53 cultivators on their own land and 29 agricultural labourers. A further 4 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Sohal Khalsa's land.
