Hazipur is a village of Sultanpur Lodhi tehsil in Kapurthala district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sultanpur Lodhi, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sultanpur Lodhi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029456, and it covers 149 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 300 people in Hazipur: 153 men and 147 women, living in 55 households, an average of about 5.5 people per household. Spread over its 149 hectares, the population density works out to about 201 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 961 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 27, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 137 people, about 46 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.39 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.29 per cent and women at 72.18 per cent. The census recorded 99 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 99 main workers, the largest group, 47, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 40 agricultural labourers and 12 other workers in trade, transport and services. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Hazipur's land. Of the village's 149 hectares, 141 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (141 hectares).
