Nangal Majha is a village of Phagwara tehsil in Kapurthala district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Phagwara, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Phagwara community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029652, and it covers 258 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 2,053 people in Nangal Majha: 1,038 men and 1,015 women, living in 464 households, an average of about 4.4 people per household. Spread over its 258 hectares, the population density works out to about 795 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 978 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 230, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 975 people, about 47 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 82.39 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.06 per cent and women at 79.64 per cent. The census recorded 717 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. Of the 498 main workers, the largest group, 368, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 51 cultivators on their own land and 43 agricultural labourers.
