Gaunsgarh is a village in Samrala tehsil of Ludhiana district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Machhiwara, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Machhiwara community development block and is served by the Mand Gaunsgarh gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032998, and it covers 75 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 192 people in Gaunsgarh: 95 men and 97 women, living in 33 households, an average of about 5.8 people per household. Spread over its 75 hectares, the population density works out to about 256 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1021 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 30, about 16 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 0 people, about 0 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 58.64 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 65.85 per cent and women at 51.25 per cent. The census recorded 113 workers, about 59 per cent of the village.
