It counted 3,442 people in the 2011 census and is known across India as the birthplace of Kartar Singh Sarabha, the Ghadar Party revolutionary hanged in 1915 aged 19. ## Where is Sarabha? Sarabha is a village in Ludhiana West tehsil of Ludhiana district, Punjab, India, in the Malwa region, southwest of Ludhiana city on the road towards Raikot. The 2011 District Census Handbook directory recorded Mullanpur Dakha, 12 kilometres away, as its nearest statutory town. The village falls in the Pakhowal community development block and has its own gram panchayat, named Sarabha in the panchayat record. Its census village code is 033563, its PIN code is 141105, and Wikipedia plots it at 30.7507 degrees north, 75.6948 degrees east. Two spellings are in everyday use, and this page keeps both. The Census of India, the village directory and Wikipedia record the village as Saraba, without the h. The martyr born here is Kartar Singh Sarabha, with the h, and Sarabha is the spelling used by his memorial, the village nursing college and the martyrdom day observance. In Gurmukhi the census spelling is Sarba and the memorial spelling is Sarabha: the same village under both. ## Kartar Singh Sarabha: early life in the village Kartar Singh Sarabha was born in this village on 24 May 1896, to Mangal Singh Grewal and Sahib Kaur, in a Jat Sikh family. His father died while he was still young and his grandfather raised him. After his first schooling in the village, he studied at the Malwa Khalsa High School in Ludhiana up to the eighth class, the school record summarised on his biographical pages. The ancestral house where he was born still stands in the village and is preserved as a place of remembrance, with photographs of freedom struggle martyrs displayed inside. In July 1912, aged 15 or 16, he sailed to San Francisco for higher studies. His biographies say he went intending to enrol at the University of California, Berkeley. This page states the point carefully: the university holds no record of his enrolment, a caution recorded on his Wikipedia biography. What is not in doubt is where his energy went. The treatment of Indian immigrants, especially manual workers, angered him, and contact with Indian students and workers in California drew him to the independence movement. ## America and the Ghadar Party The Ghadar Party was founded in 1913 by Indians in North America, with Sohan Singh Bhakna as president and Lala Hardayal as secretary, to win India's freedom by armed struggle. Kartar Singh joined as a teenager and became one of its most active members. When the party launched its newspaper Ghadar on 1 November 1913, in Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu and other languages, he took charge of printing the Gurmukhi edition, composed patriotic poetry for it and wrote articles. Bhakna, the accounts record, called him Baba General. When the First World War began in 1914, the party judged it the moment to strike and called its members home. Kartar Singh reached India in October 1914, via Colombo, and began organising a rising among Indian soldiers. A meeting on 12 February 1915 fixed 21 February for the uprising, beginning with the cantonments at Mian Mir and Ferozepur. The plan never fired: Kirpal Singh, a police informer inside the party, betrayed it, arrests followed on 19 February, and the government disarmed the soldiers named in the plan. ## Arrest, trial and martyrdom After the rising failed, Kartar Singh was ordered towards Afghanistan but turned back. On 2 March 1915 he was arrested at Chak No. 5 in Sargodha, where he had been speaking to soldiers at a military stud, with Harnam Singh Tundilat and Jagat Singh. Tried in the first Lahore Conspiracy Case, he refused, the accounts record, to call the rising a conspiracy, insisting it was an open challenge to foreign rule, took the blame on himself and declined to appeal. He was hanged at the Central Jail, Lahore, on 16 November 1915, aged 19, with Vishnu Ganesh Pingle and five other comrades. His afterlife in Punjab's memory is inseparable from Bhagat Singh. Bhagat Singh's mother recalled that a photograph of Sarabha was recovered from him on his arrest, that he always carried it in his pocket, and that he would show it to her and say, in her words, Dear mother, this is my hero, friend and companion. A Punjabi biographical film, Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, was released in 1977. ## How Sarabha remembers him The village keeps his memory in stone and in its calendar. A statue and memorial stand at the village crossroads, and his ancestral house holds photographs and short accounts of freedom struggle martyrs. The Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha nursing college and hospital carries his name into daily life: its trust records that it stands in his native village, on the land where he was born. A youth front event in the village on 3 November 2025, ahead of his 110th martyrdom anniversary, shows the observance still organised locally as well as by the state. The state level martyrdom day function is held at the village on 16 November. Reporting of the 2025 function records the Punjab Chief Minister paying floral tributes at the village and the ancestral home, honouring the six comrades hanged with him, and announcing development projects worth Rs 45.84 crore. The announcements, reported as announcements and not as completed works, included widening the Lalton Kalan to Sarabha to Raikot road towards Halwara, a water supply scheme, sports facilities and a training academy. ## Geography and people The 2011 census counted 3,442 people in Saraba: 1,814 men and 1,628 women in 707 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over the village area of 809 hectares, the density works out to about 425 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 897 women for every 1,000 men, close to the Punjab average of 895\. Children up to six numbered 309, about 9 per cent of the village, with a child sex ratio of 766\. Scheduled Castes numbered 1,271, about 36.93 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy stood at 82.13 per cent among residents aged seven and above, above the Punjab average of 75.84 per cent, with men at 85.36 per cent and women at 78.58 per cent. The census counted 1,157 workers, about 34 per cent of the village: 898 main workers and 259 marginal workers. Among the main workers, 302 were agricultural labourers and 257 were cultivators working their own land, the rest in other work. Farming still covers most of the land: of the 809 hectares, about 711 hectares were net sown in 2011 and every sown hectare was irrigated, the directory recording canal irrigation across the sown area. About 98 hectares were under non agricultural uses. The village directory recorded government primary, middle, secondary and senior secondary schools, one of each, so children can study in the village to Class 12, treated tap water, a post office, an anganwadi centre, an ASHA worker and bus services in the village. No health facility and no bank branch were recorded inside the village in 2011\. Those are 2011 findings, stated as such; the works announced in 2025 were aimed in part at these gaps. ## Getting there Saraba is reached by pucca roads from Ludhiana, southwest through Lalton Kalan towards Raikot, and the 2011 directory recorded bus services in the village. The nearest railway station was more than 10 kilometres away in that record, so Ludhiana Junction is the practical rail gateway. Wikipedia lists Sahnewal Airport as the closest airport. Visitors for the memorial and ancestral house usually travel from Ludhiana city, and 16 November draws the largest crowds of the year. Saraba today is two places at once. In the census record it is a Malwa farming village of 3,442 people, with its panchayat, four government schools and about 711 irrigated hectares under crops. In Punjab's memory it is Sarabha: the village of the 19 year old who printed a revolutionary newspaper in San Francisco, came home to raise a revolt, and went to the gallows at Lahore in November 1915\. ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਭਾ: ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੱਢਲਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਭਾ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਇਸੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ 24 ਮਈ 1896 ਨੂੰ ਮੰਗਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਰੇਵਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੌਰ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਇੱਕ ਜੱਟ ਸਿੱਖ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਪਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਪੋਸ਼ਣ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਦਾ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੱਢਲੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਲੁਧਿਆਣੇ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਵਾ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ ਹਾਈ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਠਵੀਂ ਜਮਾਤ ਤੱਕ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵੇਰਵਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਜ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਘਰ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੋਇਆ, ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਯਾਦਗਾਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਸਾਂਭਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਸੰਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਲੱਗੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਜੁਲਾਈ 1912 ਵਿੱਚ, 15 ਜਾਂ 16 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ, ਉਹ ਉੱਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਲਈ ਸਾਨ ਫਰਾਂਸਿਸਕੋ ਗਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵੇਰਵੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕੈਲੀਫੋਰਨੀਆ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਬਰਕਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖ਼ਲਾ ਲੈਣ ਦੇ ਇਰਾਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਗਏ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਪੰਨਾ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਾਵਧਾਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕੋਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਖ਼ਲੇ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਕੀਪੀਡੀਆ ਜੀਵਨ ਵੇਰਵੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਜ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਕਿੱਧਰ ਲੱਗੀ। ਭਾਰਤੀ ਪਰਵਾਸੀਆਂ, ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰਾਂ, ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸਲੂਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੈਲੀਫੋਰਨੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਵੱਲ ਖਿੱਚਿਆ। ## ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਗ਼ਦਰ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਗ਼ਦਰ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਸਾਲ 1913 ਵਿੱਚ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੇ ਭਾਰਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਬਣਾਈ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਸੋਹਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਭਕਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਲਾਲਾ ਹਰਦਿਆਲ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਮਕਸਦ ਹਥਿਆਰਬੰਦ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਕਰਾਉਣਾ ਸੀ। ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਿਸ਼ੋਰ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਬਣ ਗਏ। ਜਦੋਂ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਨੇ 1 ਨਵੰਬਰ 1913 ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ ਗ਼ਦਰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜੋ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ, ਹਿੰਦੀ, ਉਰਦੂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਛਪਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਭਾਰਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅਡੀਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਛਪਾਈ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਲਈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਵਿਤਾਵਾਂ ਰਚੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖੇ। ਵੇਰਵਿਆਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਭਕਨਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਬਾ ਜਰਨੈਲ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਜਦੋਂ ਸਾਲ 1914 ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਯੁੱਧ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ, ਤਾਂ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਤਨ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ। ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 1914 ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਲੰਬੋ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਗ਼ਾਵਤ ਜਥੇਬੰਦ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੁਟ ਗਏ। 12 ਫਰਵਰੀ 1915 ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਗ਼ਾਵਤ ਲਈ 21 ਫਰਵਰੀ ਤੈਅ ਹੋਈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਮੀਆਂ ਮੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਛਾਉਣੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਣੀ ਸੀ। ਯੋਜਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਚੱਲ ਹੀ ਨਾ ਸਕੀ। ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਮੁਖ਼ਬਰ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਦ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ, 19 ਫਰਵਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਲੈ ਲਏ। ## ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰੀ, ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਬਗ਼ਾਵਤ ਅਸਫਲ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਅਫ਼ਗ਼ਾਨਿਸਤਾਨ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਗਿਆ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਵਾਪਸ ਮੁੜ ਆਏ। 2 ਮਾਰਚ 1915 ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸਰਗੋਧੇ ਦੇ ਚੱਕ ਨੰਬਰ 5 ਤੋਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਹੋਏ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਫ਼ੌਜੀ ਅਸਤਬਲ ਦੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਨਾਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਟੁੰਡੀਲਾਟ ਅਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੀ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਸਾਜ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਚੱਲਿਆ। ਜੀਵਨ ਵੇਰਵਿਆਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਗ਼ਾਵਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਜ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਹਿਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਰਾਜ ਲਈ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੀ ਚੁਣੌਤੀ ਕਿਹਾ, ਸਾਰਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਰਹਿਮ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ 16 ਨਵੰਬਰ 1915 ਨੂੰ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਦੀ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ 19 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਾਂਸੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਗਣੇਸ਼ ਪਿੰਗਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਥੀ ਵੀ ਸਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਨੇ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰੀ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਸਰਾਭਾ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਮਿਲੀ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੇਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਅਕਸਰ ਇਹ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਵਿਖਾ ਕੇ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਪਿਆਰੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਜੀ, ਇਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਇਕ, ਮਿੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਯਾਦ ਸਰਾਭਾ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵੇਰਵਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਜ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਲ 2024 ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿੰਡ ਆਏ ਆਲ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਵਫ਼ਦ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਹਰਾਇਆ। ਸਾਲ 1977 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਜੀਵਨੀ ਫ਼ਿਲਮ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਭਾ ਵੀ ਰਿਲੀਜ਼ ਹੋਈ। ## ਸਰਾਭਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਿੰਡ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਥਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਸਾਂਭਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੁੱਤ ਅਤੇ ਯਾਦਗਾਰ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਚੌਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਸੰਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਵੇਰਵੇ ਹਨ। ਪਿੰਡ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਭਾ ਨਰਸਿੰਗ ਕਾਲਜ ਅਤੇ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਦੀ ਕੰਮਕਾਜੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਟਰੱਸਟ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਇਹ ਅਦਾਰਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੱਦੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੋਇਆ। ਨਵੰਬਰ 2025 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੀਪਲਜ਼ ਡੈਮੋਕਰੇਸੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਗਮ, ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ 110ਵੀਂ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਵਰ੍ਹੇਗੰਢ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ 3 ਨਵੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ, ਵਿਖਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਯਾਦ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਥਾਨਕ ਪੱਧਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਵੀ ਮਨਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸੂਬਾ ਪੱਧਰੀ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਦਿਹਾੜਾ ਸਮਾਗਮ 16 ਨਵੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। 16 ਨਵੰਬਰ 2025 ਦੇ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਭੇਟ ਕੀਤੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਫਾਂਸੀ ਚੜ੍ਹੇ ਛੇ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਲਈ 45.84 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਹ ਐਲਾਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਐਲਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਹੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਜੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ, ਵਿੱਚ ਲਲਟੋਨ ਕਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਰਾਭਾ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਏਕੋਟ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹਲਵਾੜਾ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੜਕ ਨੂੰ ਚੌੜਾ ਕਰਨਾ, ਸਤਹੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸਪਲਾਈ ਸਕੀਮ, ਖੇਡ ਸਹੂਲਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਅਕੈਡਮੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸਨ। ਇਹ ਪੰਨਾ ਇਸ ਵਾਅਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਦਾ। ## ਭੂਗੋਲ ਅਤੇ ਅਬਾਦੀ ਸਾਲ 2011 ਦੀ ਜਨਗਣਨਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਰਬਾ ਦੀ ਅਬਾਦੀ 3,442 ਸੀ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 1,814 ਮਰਦ ਅਤੇ 1,628 ਔਰਤਾਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ 707 ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ, ਭਾਵ ਔਸਤਨ ਹਰ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਭਗ 4.9 ਜੀਅ। ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ 809 ਹੈਕਟੇਅਰ ਰਕਬੇ ਦੇ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਅਬਾਦੀ ਦੀ ਘਣਤਾ ਲਗਭਗ 425 ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਵਰਗ ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ। ਲਿੰਗ ਅਨੁਪਾਤ ਹਰ 1,000 ਮਰਦਾਂ ਪਿੱਛੇ 897 ਔਰਤਾਂ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਔਸਤ 895 ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ। ਛੇ ਸਾਲ ਤੱਕ ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ 309 ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਕੁੱਲ ਅਬਾਦੀ ਦਾ ਲਗਭਗ 9 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਲ ਲਿੰਗ ਅਨੁਪਾਤ 766 ਸੀ। ਅਨੁਸੂਚਿਤ ਜਾਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਅਬਾਦੀ 1,271 ਸੀ, ਭਾਵ ਕੁੱਲ ਅਬਾਦੀ ਦਾ ਲਗਭਗ 36.93 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੁਸੂਚਿਤ ਕਬੀਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਅਬਾਦੀ ਦਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ। ਸੱਤ ਸਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਖਰਤਾ ਦਰ 82.13 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਔਸਤ 75.84 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਹੈ। ਮਰਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਦਰ 85.36 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 78.58 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਸੀ। ਜਨਗਣਨਾ ਵਿੱਚ 1,157 ਕਾਮੇ ਦਰਜ ਹੋਏ, ਜੋ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਅਬਾਦੀ ਦਾ ਲਗਭਗ 34 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ 898 ਮੁੱਖ ਕਾਮੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ 259 ਮਾਮੂਲੀ ਕਾਮੇ ਸਨ। ਮੁੱਖ ਕਾਮਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ 302 ਖੇਤ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ 257 ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਵਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਸਨ, ਜਦਕਿ ਬਾਕੀ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਨ। ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਹੇਠ ਹੈ। 809 ਹੈਕਟੇਅਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸਾਲ 2011 ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਭਗ 711 ਹੈਕਟੇਅਰ ਵਾਹੀ ਹੇਠ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਵਾਹੀ ਵਾਲੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਸਿੰਜੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ। ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਵਾਹੀ ਵਾਲੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਨਹਿਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਿੰਜੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ। ਲਗਭਗ 98 ਹੈਕਟੇਅਰ ਗੈਰ ਖੇਤੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਹੇਠ ਸੀ। ਪਿੰਡ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਇਮਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ, ਇੱਕ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਮਿਡਲ ਸਕੂਲ, ਇੱਕ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਸੈਕੰਡਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਸੈਕੰਡਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ ਦਰਜ ਸਨ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਬੱਚੇ ਬਾਰ੍ਹਵੀਂ ਜਮਾਤ ਤੱਕ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਸੋਧਿਆ ਟੂਟੀ ਪਾਣੀ, ਇੱਕ ਡਾਕਘਰ, ਇੱਕ ਆਂਗਣਵਾਡ਼ੀ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਆਸ਼ਾ ਵਰਕਰ ਦਰਜ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਬੱਸ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਵੀ ਦਰਜ ਸਨ। ਸਾਲ 2011 ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਹਤ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਦਰਜ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਬੈਂਕ ਸ਼ਾਖਾ, ਜਦਕਿ ਨੇੜਲਾ ਬੈਂਕ 10 ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਦੂਰ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਸਾਲ 2011 ਦੀ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੱਸੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਸਾਲ 2025 ਵਿੱਚ ਐਲਾਨੇ ਗਏ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸੀ। ##
