Shekhewal is a village of Ludhiana East tehsil in Ludhiana district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Ludhiana, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ludhiana-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033418, and it covers 219 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 290 people in Shekhewal: 148 men and 142 women, living in 64 households, an average of about 4.5 people per household. Spread over its 219 hectares, the population density works out to about 132 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 959 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 46, about 16 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 278 people, about 96 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 49.18 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 48.76 per cent and women at 49.59 per cent. The census recorded 97 workers, about 33 per cent of the village.
