Kahnewala is a village of Sardulgarh tehsil in Mansa district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sardulgarh, about 1 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sardulgarh community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035947, and it covers 677 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,568 people in Kahnewala: 811 men and 757 women, living in 269 households, an average of about 5.8 people per household. Spread over its 677 hectares, the population density works out to about 232 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 933 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 202, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 521 people, about 33 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 64.06 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 73.73 per cent and women at 53.65 per cent. The census recorded 561 workers, about 36 per cent of the village. Of the 499 main workers, the largest group, 298, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 120 agricultural labourers and 77 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 62 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Kahnewala's land.
