Dhalleke is a village in Moga tehsil of Moga district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Moga, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Moga-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034047, and it covers 1,177 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 5,921 people in Dhalleke: 3,133 men and 2,788 women, living in 1,117 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 1,177 hectares, the population density works out to about 503 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 890 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 637, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 2,093 people, about 35 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 65.52 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 67.8 per cent and women at 62.94 per cent. The census recorded 1,949 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 1,828 main workers, the largest group, 729, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 590 cultivators on their own land and 463 agricultural labourers. A further 121 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Dhalleke's land. Of the village's 1,177 hectares, 1,046 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 681 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (57 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (624 hectares). About 128 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 10 hours a day.
