Jalalabad is a village in Moga tehsil of Moga district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Dharamkot, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dharamkot community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034102, and it covers 2,117 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 6,811 people in Jalalabad: 3,547 men and 3,264 women, living in 1,310 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 2,117 hectares, the population density works out to about 322 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 920 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 826, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 3,303 people, about 48 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 67.05 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 70.71 per cent and women at 63.08 per cent. The census recorded 2,380 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. Of the 2,037 main workers, the largest group, 1,109, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 464 cultivators on their own land and 319 agricultural labourers. A further 343 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Jalalabad's land. Irrigation came mainly from canals (375 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (1,508 hectares). About 234 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
