Jandwal is a village of Pathankot tehsil in Pathankot district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Pathankot, about 13 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dhar Kalan community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027425, and it covers 248 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 2,119 people in Jandwal: 1,129 men and 990 women, living in 470 households, an average of about 4.5 people per household. Spread over its 248 hectares, the population density works out to about 854 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 877 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 208, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 463 people, about 22 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 87.39 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 92.95 per cent and women at 80.99 per cent. The census recorded 746 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. Of the 565 main workers, the largest group, 499, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 43 cultivators on their own land and 12 household industry workers. A further 181 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Jandwal's land.
