Karoli is a village of Pathankot tehsil in Pathankot district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Pathankot, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dhar Kalan community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027420, and it covers 1,255 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 3,383 people in Karoli: 1,796 men and 1,587 women, living in 671 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 1,255 hectares, the population density works out to about 270 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 884 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 349, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 770 people, about 23 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 87.31 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 92.83 per cent and women at 81.23 per cent. The census recorded 938 workers, about 28 per cent of the village. Of the 851 main workers, the largest group, 604, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 150 cultivators on their own land and 89 agricultural labourers. A further 87 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Karoli's land.
