Kathana is a village in Pathankot tehsil of Pathankot district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Pathankot, about 25 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Narot Jaimal Singh community development block and is served by the Gaji Barwan gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027721, and it covers 110 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 191 people in Kathana: 104 men and 87 women, living in 37 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 110 hectares, the population density works out to about 174 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 837 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 12, about 6 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 119 people, about 62 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 75.98 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.21 per cent and women at 66.67 per cent. The census recorded 53 workers, about 28 per cent of the village. Of the 53 main workers, the largest group, 39, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 13 cultivators on their own land and 1 other workers in trade, transport and services. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Kathana's land.
