Madhopur Chhauni is a village of Pathankot tehsil in Pathankot district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sujanpur, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sujanpur community development block and is served by the Madhopur,DEFENCE EB gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027409, and it covers 209 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 2,690 people in Madhopur Chhauni: 1,447 men and 1,243 women, living in 610 households, an average of about 4.4 people per household. Spread over its 209 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,287 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 859 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 394, about 15 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 223 people, about 8 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 94.64 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 97.83 per cent and women at 90.87 per cent. The census recorded 797 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. Of the 750 main workers, the largest group, 733, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 9 cultivators on their own land and 8 household industry workers.
