Bolar Kalan is a village of Patiala tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sanaur, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sanaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036804, and it covers 623 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 2,136 people in Bolar Kalan: 1,124 men and 1,012 women, living in 376 households, an average of about 5.7 people per household. Spread over its 623 hectares, the population density works out to about 343 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 900 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 201, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 428 people, about 20 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 68.01 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 72.89 per cent and women at 62.6 per cent. The census recorded 772 workers, about 36 per cent of the village. Of the 658 main workers, the largest group, 235, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 219 other workers in trade, transport and services and 198 agricultural labourers. A further 114 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Bolar Kalan's land.
