Kakra is a village of Samana tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Samana, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Samana community development block and is served by the Kakran gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036196, and it covers 176 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 682 people in Kakra: 356 men and 326 women, living in 129 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 176 hectares, the population density works out to about 388 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 916 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 81, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 97 people, about 14 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 70.55 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 77.46 per cent and women at 62.94 per cent. The census recorded 227 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 226 main workers, the largest group, 136, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 88 other workers in trade, transport and services and 2 agricultural labourers. A further 1 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Kakra's land.
