Kotla Gehru is a village of Patiala tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sanaur, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sanaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036817, and it covers 165 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 575 people in Kotla Gehru: 310 men and 265 women, living in 123 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 165 hectares, the population density works out to about 348 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 855 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 71, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 140 people, about 24 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.97 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.62 per cent and women at 70.21 per cent. The census recorded 178 workers, about 31 per cent of the village.
