Samana Rural is a village in Samana tehsil of Patiala district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Samana, about 1 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Samana community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036200, and it covers 1,894 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 5,825 people in Samana Rural: 3,198 men and 2,627 women, living in 1,082 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 1,894 hectares, the population density works out to about 308 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 821 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 802, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 2,187 people, about 38 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 55.72 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 60.81 per cent and women at 49.42 per cent. The census recorded 2,558 workers, about 44 per cent of the village. Of the 2,149 main workers, the largest group, 1,342, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 498 cultivators on their own land and 214 agricultural labourers.
